Hello, Killingworth–
Much will be happening this week under the new regimen we are following to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Remember that you should now be wearing a face covering in public places where you can’t help coming into contact with others. Masks continue to be available through Town Hall (leave a message at 860-663-1765, ext. 201).
School budget. As ordered by Governor Lamont, no school budget referendum will be held this year. The RSD17 Board of Education will vote on the 2020-21 school budget on June 2. They would very much like to hear community comments before then.
Comments may be sent by email to boepubliccomment@rsd17.org between now and May 5. Emails must include your full name and the town in which you reside. All comments and any responses will be posted on the RSD17.org website in an FAQ under “Budget Information.”
A Community Input session will be live-streamed on Tuesday, April 21, at 7:00 p.m. at https://sites.google.com/rsd17.org/rsd-17-boe-stream. Any email comments received before this meeting adjourns will be read and responded to on air.
For documents and videos showing the development of the school budget to date, see the superintendent’s original proposed budget here and various proposed alterations to that budget in the Board of Education calendar.
Shared Harvest Garden. The Shared Harvest Garden grows produce at Parmelee Farm and offers it free to anyone who needs it. The growing season is getting under way, and some of the regular gardeners have been sidelined after contact with COVID-positive individuals. New volunteers are needed! The Shared Harvest Garden is maintaining careful practices of social distancing and sanitation, so you can be in good company from afar. And what the garden produces will be especially valuable this year. If you are interested, please contact Mary Solera at 860-227-8144.
Killingworth Day. For many years now, the day before Mother’s Day has been the occasion for the town to come together at the Killingworth Historical Society tag sale, the Evergreen Garden Club plant sale, the KVFC town-wide tag sale, and sales by the Lions, the Library, and the Democratic Town Committee. Sadly, these events can’t take place this year. Look for announcements of rescheduled events once it’s safe to go out again. And make something nice for your mother!
Face Mask Care. Reusable fabric masks should be removed carefully from your face without touching your eyes, nose, or mouth; then wash your hands. Masks should be washed with soap or detergent and dried, preferably in the drier, at least once a day, unless you are in close contact with an infected person, in which case the mask should be washed after each use. I put mine in one of those mesh bags for delicate laundry, just to keep them from getting too beaten up.
Stay home, stay safe–
Cathy
