KHS Lecture/Book Talk: The Quinnipiac — The First People of the Shoreline

The Killingworth Historical Society is sponsoring a lecture/book talk and signing about the Quinnipiac – The First People of the Shoreline, on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., at the Killingworth Fire Station, Route 81.

James T. Powers book, “Shadows Over Dawnland describes the story of the Quinnipiac struggle to survive the cultural and spiritual calamity that overwhelms them and could destroy their way of life. Told through the eyes and voice of Ponaim, shaman of the People, is the historical experience of this local Indigenous tribe, which includes the Hammonassets, during the first fifty years of the English Colonization.

Mr. Powers is a historian, educator, archeologist, and lecturer, and will share with us the history and story of the Quinnipiac people and the catastrophic events that took place after their contact with Europeans two years after British colonization.

Mr. Powers book will be available for purchase after the lecture.
