(May 13, 2023) — AngelRide is a charity cycling event that benefits young burn survivors who attend the Children’s Burn Camp. We are grateful to the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company Station #3 in Higganum for joining us as a Rest Stop for our Metric Century cyclists. The community is welcome to cheer for the riders at the firehouse anytime between 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023. Volunteers are also needed and details are on our website www.AngelRide.org.
The 20th AngelRide on June 3rd marks the fifth year in support of The Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp, operated by the Connecticut Burns Care Foundation. AngelRide starts and finishes at the Essex Fire Department and offers cyclists a Metric Century route (8:00 a.m. Start), a 20-mile route (11:00 a.m. Start), and a 3-mile group Halo AngelRide (2:30 p.m. Start). E-bikes are invited on the 20-mile and 3-mile routes.
Cyclists and volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Enthusiastic volunteers provide support at full-service Rest Stops and along the routes as Medical Riders, Support Vans, and MotoCrew. Family, friends, and the community are invited to cheer at the Finish and enjoy lunch, games, and entertainment.
The Children’s Burn Camp is free to campers ages 8-18 with life-altering burn injuries. Camp counselors and staff are volunteers and include adult burn survivors, firefighters, emergency and medical professionals, and caring adults. Life-long relationships are built with peers who have been through the same type of trauma and continued recovery. A sense of peace and freedom is rediscovered, as no one at Camp is asking about their scars, no one is staring. Camp sustains and empowers the children on their life’s journey. Joy, laughter, and camaraderie can be found at the archery range, waterfront, creative space, outdoor theatre, ropes course, mess hall, and around the campfire.
Angel Charities is grateful to have several of the Burn Camp community join in AngelRide! Together we all can do more. Pedal. Volunteer. Donate. Register for AngelRide and help kids heal. www.AngelRide.org.
