(Oct. 31, 2021) Haddam Volunteer Fire Company, along with several mutual aid departments, was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 975 Saybrook Road at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 31. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames coming from the A-side, or front of the house near the front door and through a front window.
The house, which has been unoccupied for some time, has since been used for storage. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and vented the home through the roof and several windows.
Although no one was injured in the fire, one firefighter who was not feeling well prior to the incident was transported to Middlesex Hospital. He has since been released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but is likely electrical-related according to Haddam Fire Marshal Christopher Gamache.
Mutual Aid was provided by South Fire District Firefighters IAFF Local 3918, Chester Hose Company Inc., Killingworth Volunteer Fire Co., Durham Volunteer Fire Company, Haddam Neck Volunteer Fire Department, and East Haddam Fire Department.#haddamfire
