HVFC & Mutual Aid Respond to River Road Structure Fire

By Olivia Drake, HVFC Information Officer.

(July 20, 2022) At 1:10 a.m. on July 20, Haddam Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a fully-involved structure fire at a residence on River Road. The home was unoccupied at the time.

As part of Valley Shore Communications Level I Tanker Taskforce, crews from Chester, Killingworth, Durham, East Haddam, and Haddam Neck also responded as mutual aid. Middletown South District provided a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) at the scene.

Crews quickly worked to extinguish the fire and worked for approximately an hour and a half on overhaul. In addition, a live power line had melted off the house, fell into the woods, and started a small brush fire. Once Eversource secured the power, crews extinguished the fire, along with smoking “hot spots” at the scene’s perimeter.

The cause of the fire is under investigation with the Haddam Fire Marshal’s Office.
