Haddam Volunteer Fire Company and Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company responded to a reported structure fire at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2020 on Hidden Lake Road. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke billowing from an attic window.
The residents had already evacuated the home.
Crews removed all burning debris from a wood boiler, located in the home’s basement and investigated the chimney for blockage. After all burning material was removed, firefighters vented the home with fans and checked for any hot spots in the walls. They also metered the home for unusual carbon monoxide levels.
Firefighters encouraged the homeowners to have their chimney and appliances inspected by a professional company.
Several other mutual aid companies were dispatched and canceled en route.
