At 6:05 p.m., Nov. 26, 2019, Haddam Volunteer Fire Company and Middletown South Fire District responded to a reported vehicle fire on Route 9 South between exits 10 and 9.
A driver, who was heading southbound on Route 9, was having problems with his vehicle and pulled off the highway on Exit 9 in Higganum. A fire ignited and the driver self-extricated without injury.
While South District used its apparatus to block traffic onto the ramp, firefighters from both South District and Haddam worked to extinguish the fire.
