At 6:20 a.m. on April 18, 2020, Haddam Volunteer Fire Company and South Fire District Middletown were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9 South between exists 9 and 10. The vehicle’s operator had veered off the highway and crashed into brush and trees in the median. It was unknown how long the patient had been inside the vehicle. Crews from South Fire District began extrication and lane closures. Haddam assisted with extrication and remained holding traffic patterns until the vehicle was towed. The patient was transferred to Hartford Hospital via Hunter’s Ambulance Service.
At 9:15 p.m. on April 16, 2020, HVFC responded to another motor vehicle accident on Walkley Hill Road. A driver had crashed through a fence and struck a tree. Firefighters and EMS personnel provided patient care and vehicle stabilization. The patient was transported to Middlesex Hospital via Haddam Ambulance Service.
