Boys Track/Girls Track 2024: HKHS Teams Defeat Portland and Hale-Ray in Season Opener

(April 18, 2024) — The Haddam Killingworth High School Boys and Girls track teams opened their seasons as they hosted a tri-meet against Portland and Nathan Hale-Ray High Schools on April 16, 2024.  

Both HKHS teams came away with two victories each on the day as the Boys defeated Hale-Ray by a score of 135-2, and Portland by a score of 105-34 to start their dual meet season 2-0. 

Leading the way for the Cougars were the following event winners: Jack Cozean 800 (2:12) and 1600 (4:49), Sam Greenwood 100 dash (11.4), Daniel McCourt 3200 (10:29), Wes Stevens 110 hurdles (19.4), Luke Hedges 300 hurdles (46.4), Trevor Dixon javelin (144’6″), Mitchell Kelsey shot put (41’2.5″) and discus (114’2″), Joe Slane long jump (18’4″), Luke Staskelunas triple jump (39’0″) , Tetsuya Imai high jump (5’4″) and Ryan Ruggerio pole vault (10’6″).  The boys 4×800 and 4×400 relay teams also won their events.

The H-K girls team also went 2-0 on the day to begin their dual meet season as they defeated Hale-Ray by a score of 129-10, and beat Portland 114-22.  Leading the way for the Cougars were the following event winners: Mariella Fulcher 100 (12.5), 200 (26.3) and 400 (59.7), Jayani Bennett 100 hurdles (17.1), Charlotte Behnke 3200 (12:33), Margaret Robinson javelin (81’9″), Emmerson Goeden shot put (25’8″) and discus (87’0″),  Kaleigh Nelligan pole vault (7’6″), Adrianna Garoppolo long jump (14’2″) and Anna Wojnarowicz high jump (3’8″).  The girls 4×100 and 4×400 relay team was also victorious on the afternoon to contribute valuable team points.

 

The track teams will next be in action on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, as they travel to East Hampton to compete in a tri-meet against East Hampton and North Branford.
