On April 22, 2023, the Haddam Killingworth High School Girls Lacrosse team brought gold to their Higganum field, with a scheduled fundraiser in support of an HKHS family. These girls made HK glitter like gold, successfully raising awareness of Children’s Cancer and collecting funds in support of the Webster family. Family, friends, as well as supporters of the opposing team, all came together eagerly donating to this important cause. The heart of this team is united in color and cause.
The game against Valley Regional showed that this group of girls has come together as a united front. Having seen the team score quickly on Valley’s defense with three goals within the first few minutes of the game, Coaches Reilly and Cassidy decided to switch things up and put the Defense on Attack, move the Midfield line to Defense and Attack to Midfield while subbing in Junior Varsity players in all positions.
The game was a vision of long passes, extended defense and intricate position plays often leaving Goalie Gabby Williams walking upfield to see the action. Shots on goal by defenders left the stands clapping with joy while defending attack players showed just how hard our defense works.
This was a wonderful thing to watch as players who do not normally start, played the field, all encouraging each other and supporting the team as a whole with one goal in mind,
Give Everyone a Chance to Score! And score they did. After a minimum of four passes to net, Haddam Killingworth defeated Valley with a final score of 17-5. Goals were sscored by Senior Captains Audrey Wrinn, Jenna Whitmer, and Sophie Ramino, Juniors Aly Campbell, Brigitte Battistoni, Ella Connelly, and Samantha (Sammy) Ruimerman, and Sophomores Ava Ramino and Seanna (SeaSea) Ruimerman.
Way to come together Lady Cougars! Keep doing good work, on and off the field!
