Girls Lacrosse 2023: HKHS Defeats Mercy 14-3

                                                                                                                  By Janice Calvi-Ruimerman

(April 24, 2023) — The energy and clear sense of team was electric as the Haddam Killingworth High School Girls Lacrosse team gave no Mercy on Saturday, April 22, 2023, on their home field. Every HK player played this game with heart and as a true teammate in total sync with each other. It was a beautiful game to watch as Sophomore Goalie Gabrielle (Gabby) Williams pushed the defense and encouraged the offense from the net, saving shot after shot with ease. Long passes and intricate possession plays led this team to a united victory over Mercy High School.

The first goal resulted from possession off the draw by Seanna (SeaSea) Ruimerman with a quick pass to Junior Samantha (Sammy) Ruimerman to run down field to open player Senior Captain Jenna Whitmer for the score. Mercy’s defense was no match as Ava Ramino gained possession quickly passing to Senior Captain Jenna Whitmer for a second goal. And Jamie DiNapoli brought in the third shot on goal giving HK a fast lead, 3-1. Mercy had no prayer when it came to HK’s net, as defenders Te’a Norman, Brigitte Battistoni, Peyton Tyler, Juliana (J-Gag) Gagliardi and Julia Favalora pressured the Mercy attack.

While HK’s midfielders and attack team gracefully carried the ball for goal after goal after goal, precision passes by Senior Captain Audrey Wrinn and Juniors Aly Campbell and Samantha (Sammy) Ruimerman coupled with stolen balls by Senior Captain Georgia Cancroft and Junior Jamie DiNapoli ensured the ball stayed in HK’s pocket, resulting in a Cougars victory with a final score of 14-3 over the Mercy Tigers.

Goals were scored by Senior Captains Jenna Whitmer 2 and Audrey Wrinn 4, Junior Jamie DiNapoli 4, Sophomore Ava Ramino 2 penalty shots and Sophomore Seanna (SeaSea) Ruimerman 2. This game was a true TEAM effort.

Amazing teamwork, girls. Keep playing like this. It was a true symphony, fully in tune!
