Cross Country 2022: HKHS Shines at Invitational Meet

(October 4, 2022) –— On October 1, 2022, the Haddam Killingworth High School boys and girls cross country teams continued their season as they traveled to Montgomery, New York to compete at the first annual New York Night Time Showcase sponsored by New Balance.

The Boys Varsity team ran their best race of the season thus far as they won their first invitational of the fall, placing 1st with 45 points to outdistance several teams from New York and one from Maryland.  They were led by senior tri-captain Alex Lara who placed 5th in the race in a time of 13:38 for the 2.5 mile course.  Close behind were teammates sophomore Jack Cozean 6th (13:57), junior Luke Hedges 7th (14:12) freshman Daniel McCourt 12th (14:29) and sophomore Colton Merola 15th (14:39).  The JV boys also placed 1st as a team in their race as they were led by the 1-2 finish of senior Peter Lavelle 1st (15:02) and freshman Alex Frederickson 2nd (15:06).

The Girls Varsity team also raced well and placed fourth as a team with 89 points.  The girls were led by freshman Grace Mitchell who placed 2nd in the race with a time of 15:43. Following her was senior Izzy Berardino 13th (16:31), junior Sydney Adelberg 21st (16:57) and sophomore Keira Sehl-Albert 23rd (17:01). Rounding out the rest of the team were seniors Chloe Lacoss 34th (18:18) and Kira O’Brien 35th (18:24).

The cross country team will next be in action on October 4th at home as they host the Floyd Parness Invitational.
