(April 13, 2023) — Square Peg Pizzeria of Higganum is proud to announce its participation in the inaugural Bakes for Breast Cancer/Connecticut, which helps raise funds, exposure and awareness for breast cancer research. Bakeries, cafés, pastry shops and restaurants throughout Connecticut will participate during this year’s fundraiser from Friday, May 5 through Thursday, May 11, 2023. Square Peg will dedicate 50% of its sales from all of their dessert items back to Bakes for Breast Cancer/Connecticut.
“We are on a mission to end breast cancer for good, one sweet treat at a time,” said Bakes for Breast Cancer Founder Carol Sneider. “We continue to expand into different states and regions, and we felt that Connecticut was the next best location to join our other signature events in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine and the Cape & Islands of Massachusetts as well. There’s a robust culinary scene there, and we hope to welcome some of those venues that pride themselves on their desserts to join our mission this year and for years to come.”
There are two ways for venues to participate in Bakes for Breast Cancer Connecticut, by offering one designated dessert throughout the week where 100% of the proceeds go toward the organization, or by offering its entire dessert roster from May 5 – 11 where 50% of the proceeds goes back to Bakes for Breast Cancer. Those funds will then support the research of Dr. Veda Giri of Yale School of Medicine and Yale Cancer Center and Dr. Rachel Freedman of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Through dessert-oriented events, Bakes for Breast Cancer has created “sweet” ways to raise money for a disease that touches so many women and men. Since its inception in 1999, Bakes for Breast Cancer has raised more than two million dollars for breast cancer research and awareness, and hundreds of different bakeries, cafés, pastry shops, and restaurants have participated. Funds raised help to conduct basic and translational research and clinical trials with the hope of eliminating all deaths from breast cancer, and, ultimately, eradicating the disease.
