Halloween Candy Collection for Beechwood

By Eileen Unger-Pleines, The Bread Girl Artisan Breads

(October 4, 2023) — Fun Fact: Every year 75 to 100 Killingworth children are trick-or-treating in the Beechwood community, Killingworth’s own 55+ manufactured home community. That’s 300 units, 100 kids = 3,000 pieces of candy!! The residents of Beechwood love to interact with the kids and the area provides safe, easy trick-or-treating.

Last year, with the help of local Killingworthians, we were able to assist the generous Beechwood residents by taking away the burden of the cost of candy – if you haven’t noticed, candy costs have skyrocketed and many of the people in Beechwood are living on a fixed income. The effort was a huge success – Killingworth once again rallied and we filled an SUV to capacity with candy!!  Many more homes were able to ‘leave the porch lights on’ and greet local kids on Halloween night!

It’s candy collection time again!  In hopes of repeating the success of this effort again this year WE need YOUR help. When you’re out shopping for Halloween candy, would you pick up an extra bag or two?   Candy collection is taking place at several local businesses now through October 30, 2023.   Candy can be dropped off at True Value, 228 Route 81, Killingworth; in the Bread Shed next to the front door at The Bread Girl, 627 Route 148, Killingworth; and at Bittersweet Bistro, 176 Clinton Ave (Route 81), Building 5, Killingworth.

Happy Halloween – Be Safe!!
