Haddam Tax Bill Information: December 2018 Update

Submitted by Kristin Battistoni, Haddam Tax Collector.

Greetings from the Tax Office
Upcoming Tax Bill Information

The second installment for the Real Estate, Personal Property bills and Supplemental Motor Vehicle bills will become due on February 1, 2019. The Supplemental Motor Vehicle bills were mailed out December 5, 2018. Bills with a first installment were mailed in July of 2018. We do not send these bills out again. Copies of bills can be found on our website. You will only receive a Supplemental Motor Vehicle bill in December if a car was registered after October 1, 2017.

Checks can be made out to the Town of Haddam and can be mailed in the preprinted envelope supplied. If it is easier, all your bills can be put on one check and mailed in one envelope. We always love to see our residents, if you don’t want to mail your payment come into the Town Hall for a visit.

If you would like a receipt, please mail your payment to the Town Office building, C/O Tax Office, 30 Field Park Drive, Haddam CT, 06438. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope and we will mail you your receipt.

The Supplemental bills were ready for delivery earlier this year than in past years. Even though the bills were mailed out earlier than normal, the deadline for payment is still the same for all bills. February 1, 2019 is the last day before these bills become delinquent. We accept postmarked dates from the Post Office.  Any payments made after this deadline will start to accrue interest at 1.5% a month from the original due date of January 1, 2019. To help keep interest down, partial payments can be made at any time.

Payments may be made online; Visit Haddam.org, look on the Tax Collector’s page under Pay Taxes Online. Here you will find a way to search for your bills. There is a 2.95 % service fee on all debit and credit cards transactions. A flat fee of $1.50 will be charged for an Electronic Funds Transfer. Credit cards are now accepted in the office as well as online. If you need a copy of your bill or see what you paid for IRS purposes it is also available here.

Online payments do not reflect in real time. We have to manually process all online payments. If you receive a confirmation email, your payment was processed and will reflect online in a few days. If you are not sure if a transaction was completed please call the Tax Office before you try again. If you need a clearance for the DMV, call us, we can manually process that for you over the phone.

If you have purchased a new home, refinanced or paid off your mortgage after July 2018, please confirm with your deed or escrow company who is to pay the remaining taxes for the year.

Winter can bring us many different types of weather. Please keep in mind that if the Town Hall is closed due to inclement weather, the deadline for payments cannot be extended by the Town.

The Tax Collector’s office is open: Monday- Wednesday 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Thursday 8:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m., and Friday 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
