TOWN OF HADDAM – JULY/AUGUST 2020 UPDATE

HADDAM DEMOCRATIC AND REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE PRIMARY

AUGUST 11, 2020

There are 3 Democratic Presidential candidates on the ballot, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard, and 2 Republican Presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Rocky De La Fuente. There are also 2 Republican candidates for Representative in the 2nd Congressional District, they are Thomas Gilmer and Justin Anderson.

May 11, 2020 was the last day to switch from one party to another to vote in the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary and the Republican Presidential Preference Primary. However, this does not apply when switching from unaffiliated to party membership. If you are unaffiliated and want to vote in the Democratic or Republican Presidential Preference Primary you can switch up to 12:00 Noon on the last business day before the primary, which is Monday, August 10, 2020.

Mail-in voter registration application must be received by the Registrar of Voters and postmarked by August 6, 2020. In-person voter registration by a new or unaffiliated voter (changing to vote for a party) must be in to the Registrar of Voters or Town Clerk by 12:00 noon August 10, 2020.

Every registered Democrat and Republican voter in Connecticut was sent an absentee ballot application and can now vote by absentee ballot (mail-in). Pursuant to Executive Order 7QQ, COVID-19 may be used as a valid reason for requesting a ballot. If you have not received an absentee ballot and need one, please call the Town Clerk’s office.

Note: There will be a special “Presidential Preference Primary” registration session on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 from 12noon to 2:00pm at the Haddam Registrar of Voters Office.

To register to vote: The Registrars’ Office is currently closed (COVID-19), but email registrar@haddam.org, leave a phone message, or register at Haddam Town Hall, Town Clerk’s Office (see hours below). You may also request the Registrar of Voters or Town Clerk send you a mail-in voter registration form, or visit our website haddam.org/registrar.

Polls are open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The 3 polling places are:

*District #001   Haddam Firehouse Community Hall, 439 Saybrook Rd. (Rte 154), Higganum

*District #002   RSD#17, Central Office, 57 Little City Rd., Higganum

*District #003    Haddam Neck Firehouse, 50 Rock Landing Rd., Haddam Neck

*Curbside voting available for “voters with a disability”
