Notice from the Tax Office
On May 23, 2019, the Board of Finance set the mil rate at 31.69 for the 2018 Grand List. This will make it the third consecutive year that the mil rate did not increase. This means that for most of us, our taxes will stay the same from last year!
Tax bills will be mailed on June 28, 2019. We do not take payments before July 1, 2019. If you are going to be away in July, or put your bills in a “safe place,” you can get a copy of them on our website Haddam.org. If you need help with the website please give us a call. We can usually walk you through what you are trying to do.
If you receive a bill for a vehicle or a business you do not own any longer, or if you do not get a bill and you think you should have, please give us a call immediately. These bills will not go away if they are not addressed and could cause trouble down the road. We get pretty busy at the end of the month, so let us know earlier is always helpful for everyone.
Did you pay off your mortgage and not get a bill? Normally if you are escrowed, they receive and pay the taxes, you don’t see the bill. If you paid off your mortgage and your escrow company is no longer going to be paying the taxes you should be receiving the bill. If you receive a bill for a house you sold, please let us know so we can get it to the correct owner before fees start accruing. When properties sell close to the end of the year, we may not always be aware of that change by the time the bills go out.
We include an envelope in the bills for easy payment. These payments go to a lockbox in Hartford and are processed through our bank. This makes the processing of payments much faster. Payments can also be dropped off or mailed to the office at Town Office Building, Tax Office C/O Kristin Battistoni, 30 Field Park Drive, Haddam, CT 06438. Please make checks payable to the Town of Haddam.
A credit card or a debit card can be used on our website and online. We do not take payments over the phone. A service fee of 2.95% will be added to all payments made with a card. An Electronic Funds Transfer can be done on the website for $1.50. The website does not update in real time. Online payment may not reflect for a few days, however, you will receive an email confirmation after the payment is made. If you have any questions about using the online system give us a call.
We always accept partial payments on accounts. This is the best way to help keep the interest down.
The Tax Office will be closed Friday, June 28, 2019 so we can close the fiscal year and get ready for July.
If you have any questions please call or email Kristin Battistoni at taxcollect@haddam.org or 860-345-8531 X 207.
