(August 10, 2021) — Bob McGarry has been the chief of the Haddam Neck Volunteer Fire Department for the last 19 years. He became First Selectman for Haddam in 2019. “The demands of the First Selectman’s position prevented me from having the time I needed for the department,” Bob explained.
So in May, Bob stepped down and Tim Danaher stepped up. Tim has lived in Haddam Neck since 1975, and has been a member of HNVFD since 2005. “Tim was the fire captain and the second most senior officer in the department for most of the time I was chief,” said Bob.
Tim has been a Lieutenant for two years, and a Captain for eleven years. He also is an EMT-B, Firefighter, and Engineer. According to Bob, Tim also volunteers with the East Hampton Ambulance Association, which provides medical coverage to Haddam Neck.
“[Tim is] highly qualified, well respected and an excellent leader,” said Bob, who will stay with the department as the Assistant Chief. “I can’t think of a better person to be the chief. I’m sure Tim will succeed.”
Official elections will be held in January.
