Haddam-KillingworthNow.com set to replace HaddamNow.com

Submitted by Anthony Giamei, 9/20/18

HaddamNow.com has served the community for four years.  We have had several thousand stories and comments and well over a million page views.  In the middle of the summer of 2018, the website became unstable.  Frequent crashes were followed by calls to our hosting service and rebooting the site.  We were told that we had too much content and photos.  We purchased more space.  Things returned to normal for a few weeks, and then the problem resurfaced.  We removed “apps” one by one, trying to pin down the source of the problem.  Every time we found a flaw and fixed it, another problem surfaced.

After several dozen phone calls, we came to realize that the template (the app that gave the electronic newspaper its neat look) was no longer supported.  All the other apps (weather, ads, calendar, etc.) depend on the overall template and must be updated frequently.  As time went on, these newer apps were incompatible with the outdated template.

So, we decided to choose a new and fully supported template.  The new template was very difficult to implement, so we built the new site: Haddam-KillingworthNow.com from scratch.  The addition of Killingworth was done since we already cover the combined school system, the combined Rec Dept, the combined Youth & Family Services, obituaries, as well as Killingworth Ambulance, and Killingworth Historical Society, so that the name change is more reflective of our actual scope.

Here is a link to the new site: www.Haddam-KillingworthNow.com

Haddam-KillingworthNow also has its own Facebook Page HERE.

The Domain Name Service provider is now the same as the hosting service company.  In addition, we hired another company to provide a much-improved firewall.  This process took several months.  A primary benefit to our readers is that the new site looks very good on a smart phone, whereas the previous one did not.  The majority of internet users are now coming from smartphones.

We apologize to our readers and advertisers for the delay, but look forward to sharing a better experience.
