Haddam Food Scrap Diversion Program is Growing

Submitted by Linda Talbott.

(March 24, 2022) — Haddam’s Food Scrap Diversion Project started December 8,2021 and that first month, residents removed 725 pounds of food scraps from the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).  January saw 2275 pounds of food scraps removed.  February achieved 2,625 pounds even though the Haddam transfer station was closed for 2 days due to inclement weather and February is a short month!
We have sold 91 of the 150 starter kits we have.  If you would like a starter kit ($25 donation) or need extra compostable bags ($5 for roll of 25), they are still available at the Haddam Town Office Building 30 Field Park Drive.  See the Tax Collector or First Selectman’s Office. Hours are posted on the Town website.  The Higganum Village Market is also carrying the 3-gallon compostable Biobags as well.
Thank you to all who are participating.
