From Town of Haddam.
TOWN MEETING
We want EVERY resident to have the opportunity to vote. We understand that many residents are not comfortable being inside buildings giving the current pandemic restrictions. We have decided to try a Drive-Thru Vote!
How do you vote from your car?
Residents who want to vote from their car should be prepared with their ID (to ensure they are Haddam resident) Residents should also have paper and pen in their car.
They will write their vote on a piece of paper and hold it up to the window. **NOTE** there are 2 matters to vote on.
1st the HK Park & Rec Authority where the resident will vote Yes or No.
2nd for the BOE candidate they wish to vote for. (click here to see the Legal Notice)
We currently have 2 candidates running for the RSD17 Board of Education seat. Prem Aithal & Kathryn Packtor. (click their name to read more about the candidates)
Can a resident be nominated from the floor? How will the Drive-Thru voters know if someone was nominated?
IF there are any nominees from the floor, those names will be written on a whiteboard that we plan to have outside so residents can decide who to vote for.
Will the candidates speak about themselves during the Town Meeting? Will there be a Question & Answer portion?
We are not sure if candidates will be allowed to speak about themselves during the meeting. It depends on what the Moderator decides. The Moderator is picked that evening. There will NOT be a Question & Answer.
How will the votes be tallied?
We will have two (2) volunteers from each party. One (1) person from each party inside the auditorium and one (1) person from each party outside. We will also have one (1) ROV inside and outside. Ray Skarsten (R) will be outside and Saralyn D’Amato (D) will be inside
