(Haddam, CT) — First Selectman Candidate Brenda Buzzi has been endorsed by Ella’s List, a political action committee (PAC) named for three great Ellas who were trailblazers in their time: Isabella Beecher Hooker, Bella Abzug, and Ella Grasso. Ella’s List, started in 2017, is a way to help build a bench of women on the municipal level that can become leaders of our state.
“I am honored to be endorsed by Ella’s List and am proud to be running for First Selectman in Haddam,” said Brenda Buzzi. “It is only through approachable, honest, and transparent government can we make Haddam a vibrant and affordable community for present and future generations.”
Buzzi, 53, of Higganum, currently serves as Haddam’s voice on the Board of Education. During her tenure on the Board, she bravely voted against ten of her peers to keep the beloved elementary school open that was slated to close. This led to a grassroots movement (Save HES) to demand thorough scrutiny of the process. Hundreds of citizens mobilized and several even decided to run for political offices this fall.
Buzzi has also helped with contract writing, led union negotiations, worked with the $42,000,000 budget, helped save the district money, reviewed auditing reports, researched businesses for a superintendent search, participated in expulsion hearings, and tried to bridge the gap in communication between the board and the community.
She currently serves on the Bereavement Team at Middlesex Hospice, the Haddam Elderly Housing Committee as vice president, and is a Justice of the Peace.
Ella’s list is committed to electing Democratic women to municipal office, a critical stepping-stone for women first entering the political arena. In addition to financial support, Ella’s List provides candidates with access to female elected leaders and women of influence in Connecticut politics who offer valuable strategic advice and guidance.
