Haddam Celebrates the Season at Tylerville Tree Lighting

By Meghan Peterson, PhD

On Dec. 1, 2018, a seasonably cold Saturday, residents came out for holiday festivities on Bridge Road. On the grounds of River Valley Provisions and Tony’s Package Store, families and couples – including canine friends – gathered together to mark the first weekend in the merry season.

Inflatable yard ornaments, such as the joyous Snowman and doggie by his side, accompanied the majestic evergreen tree that was lit once darkness enveloped the scene. A magnificently bright bonfire, around which families warmed and laughed, heightened the celebratory mood. Red and green color agents were added to the fire, making the flames all that more festive.

Local businesses, including River Valley Provisions, Tony’s Package Store, Fireworks Hearth & Home, River’s Edge Tile & Carpet, Alan’s Small Engine Service and the Sibleys, hosted the event. Haddam Selectman Larry Maggi and wife Lori Maggi (owners of Fireworks Hearth & Home), along with others, served up hot, freshly-made sausage grinders, cheeseburgers, cookies of tasty varieties and hot cocoa. The crowd was also treated to a visit from none other than…Santa!

Families mingling, children laughing and doing handstands, people drinking hot cocoa…Haddam truly turned out for a great time and yes, a cup of good cheer.
