H-K Mentoring Program Seeks Volunteer Mentors

Submitted by Ray Galloway

(August 7, 2023) — Are you looking for a low-key way to help a child and possibly make a favorable difference in their life?  If your answer is “yes,” then you may want to read further and consider this opportunity to join the Haddam-Killingworth Mentoring Program.

A Mentor in our program shared a recent experience:

“My young friend (mentee) and I just completed more than two years in our mentoring relationship. At the conclusion of the school year a few weeks ago and at our last meeting for this school year, my friend gave me an envelope with a card enclosed that he had created. The card read: ‘Thank you for being the best Mentor ever!’  Along with the note was a bookmark which read ‘Friends Forever.’

You might ask, what prompted him to share his sentiment?  I am not sure. I was surprised to receive his card and his “thank-you,” but I do not know what prompted him to share his comment at that moment.

I can say with some certainty that he values our relationship, looks forward to our weekly get-togethers, sharing experiences and taking part in many activities. During the hour we spend together each week, the smile on his face and relaxed conversation tells me he is in a good place during our time despite other worries he may be having.”

Thank you to our Mentor for sharing this story. You too can have such an experience. If you would like to learn more about the H-K Mentoring Program, please contact Patty Coletti at 860-345-7498 and ask to attend an upcoming “Informational Meeting.”
