Submitted by Bob McGarry.

(March 20, 2020) –The Town of Haddam, in consultation with the Connecticut River Area Health District (CRAHD), continues to closely monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The State Department of Public Health reported a positive case of COVID-19 in Haddam, a resident over age 70 who has had very limited contact with others. The resident has been self-isolating. He is recovering from the infection. His symptoms are improving daily.

All of us should assume there are other people infected with the disease in Haddam. Please follow the guidelines to avoid contracting or spreading the disease:

Stay home if you are sick.

Stay away from crowds

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

Avoid touching your face

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs and phones daily

Maintain social distancing of at least six feet.

For the most up-to-date information, visit the COVID-19 section of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html.

If you are sick, that site has guidance on what to do and how to protect those close to you.

If you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your primary care physician or a walk-in clinic before going to their office.

We will continue to provide local updates on measures we are taking to address the COVID-19 pandemic, check our website www.haddam.org  and the Connecticut River Area Health District website (www.crahd.org).
