What is Cultural Humility?
What is Cultural Humility? Discussion Group Virtual Event: Thursday, May 27th at 7pm Humility as defined by the dictionary is the state of being humble and not arrogant. But there is a specific aspect of humility that is becoming increasingly relevant today: Cultural Humility. This is when we recognize that we have biases and limitations to our knowledge regarding another person’s culture and their right to “live” that culture as a human being in our shared world. Becoming aware of, acknowledging and respecting differences between us and those around us can help us relate to someone of a different race, age, religion, ethnicity or gender. Children who are taught to understand this and are taught to practice cultural humility are more likely to value the contributions of others to their lives. Adults who teach or who learn themselves can help foster truly collaborative, forward-thinking partnerships and a world and society where all children, and all people, feel welcome.
Please join HKYFS and Elijah Manning for the second in a series of workshops to begin conversations and learning about cultural humility and how increasing our awareness can positively impact those around us
