CSP: Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash in Killingworth

Editor’s note: One woman is dead, and two others are injured after a two-car crash in Killingworth. According to officials, 79-year-old Martha Bernard of Middletown was driving south on Route 81 in Killingworth, on Tuesday July 26, 2022, just before 8:00 p.m. Her car crossed over the center median, and collided with another car head-on in the northbound lane.

Vehicle #1 was traveling northbound on Route 81 in the town of Killingworth. Vehicle #2 was traveling southbound on Route 81. While traveling straight, Vehicle #2 swerved into the northbound lane crossing over the center median. Operator #2 lost control of Vehicle #2, subsequently Vehicle #2 collided with Vehicle #1 head-on in the northbound lane. Operator #1 was transported by ambulance to Shoreline Clinic in Westbrook. Operator #2 was transported by ambulance to Shoreline Clinic and was pronounced deceased at 19:38 hours. Passenger #1 of Vehicle #2 was transported by ambulance to LifeStar and taken to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Both Vehicles were towed from the scene by Aronson’s.
