Cross Country 2021: HKHS win big at Floyd Parness Invitational

(Oct. 6, 2021) — On Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, the Haddam Killingworth High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams traveled to Totoket Park in North Branford to compete in the Floyd Parness Invitational against Old Saybrook, Lyme-Old Lyme, Valley Regional, Morgan, and North Branford.

Once again the boys team ran a controlled team race over the 3 mile course to continue undefeated in their dual meet season and improve to 10-0.  They defeated Morgan by a score of 15-50, beat Old Lyme 15-50, defeated North Branford 15-50, beat Valley 15-50 and beat Old Saybrook 25-36.  H-K boys ran as a pack at the front of the race and were led by freshman Sawyer DiMatteo who placed 3rd in a time of 17:20.  Crossing the line together in a time of 17:20 in places 4th thru 10th were seniors Caleb Freeman, Andrew Hedges, Evan Baird, Tyler Robinson as well as junior Alex Lara and freshman Colton Merola and Jack Cozean.

The Girls team also went up against the same five schools and went undefeated on the afternoon and improved their dual meet record to 9-1 on the season. The Cougars defeated Morgan 15-48, beat Old Lyme 15-50, defeated Valley 23-38, beat Old Saybrook 23-35, and beat North Branford 15-50. Leading the way for H-K was junior Izzy Berardino who placed 2nd in a time of 20:02. She was followed by senior Ava DiMatteo 5th (20:13) then senior Brianna Minervino, junior Chloe Lacoss and sophomore Sydney Adelberg all crossed the line together in places 7-8-9 in a time of 20:39 to secure the victory.

The cross country team will next be in action on Thursday, October 14, 2021 as they travel to East Hampton High School  to compete in the Shoreline Mega-Meet.
