On Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, the Haddam Killingworth High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams traveled to East Hampton High School to compete in the Shoreline Mega against the rest of the schools in the conference.
Going into the meet with an unblemished dual meet record, the boys cross country squad once again finished the season undefeated with a 15-0 record on the season. This is the 8th consecutive undefeated season for the boys as they have compiled a record of 107-0 since 2014. Once again the boys team ran a tactical team race over the challenging 3.1 mile course. They defeated Hale Ray by a score of 15-50, beat Cromwell 15-50, defeated East Hampton 20-43, beat Portland 21-40 and beat Old Saybrook 20-43.
H-K boys ran as a pack at the front of the race and were led by Alex Lara, Caleb Freeman, Tyler Robinson and Andrew Hedges who all crossed the line together in a time of 19:07 in places 4th thru 7th. Freshman Jack Cozean and Colton Merola rounded out the scoring by placing 9th and 10th overall in the race.
The girls team improved their dual meet record on the afternoon as they won four of the dual meets to finish the season with a 13-2 record. The Cougars defeated Morgan 15-50, beat Coginchaug 15-48, defeated Old Saybrook 22-38, beat Portland 24-33, but lost to East Hampton by a score of 27-28.
Leading the way for H-K was a trio of Cougars, junior Izzy Berardino, senior Ava DiMatteo, and senior Brianna Minervino who crossed the line together in a time of 23:24 in places 4th-6th. Next to cross the line was junior Chloe Lacoss 14th (24:43), sophomore Sydney Adelberg 15th (24:46), and senior Charlotte Selmer 16th (24:47).
The cross country team will next be in action on Saturday, October 23, 2021 as they travel to East Hampton High School to compete in the Shoreline Championship Meet.
