(August 3, 2024) — The Connecticut Blood Center has announced a critical blood emergency due to a decline in blood donations, with the region seeing a shortened supply of several critical blood types.
Experts say the current inventory of type O blood is the lowest it’s been since 2020. The decline in donations is due to a seasonal shift in travel and fewer blood donation clinics, but the summer also sees an increase in traumatic accidents, deepening the issue.
