(February 5, 2021) The Covid-19 Virus vaccinations by Pfizer and Moderna are now being given out at a number of locations, in Connecticut, to specific groups. Currently they are up to Group 1B, [i.e.,] those over 75 years old. Next is individuals between the ages of 65 and 74. You have to register and get an appointment, and probably will need a computer because the phone lines are so busy that they put you on hold forever or forget to call you back if you leave a message.
There are three groups of facilities that are giving injections: VAMS (Vaccine Administration Management System via https://portal.ct.gov/CoronaVirus/Covid-19-Vaccination-phases), [e.g.,] CHC on Main Street, Middletown; Hospitals, [e.g.,] Hartford Health Care (you must set up a “MyChartPlus” account), Yale-New Haven Hospital; pharmacies,[ e.g.,] CVS or Walgreens (only at some locations), Nutmeg Pharmacy at Higganum or Moodus.
The last is probably the easiest. I spoke to Mr. Greg McKenna Thursday February 4th when I got my first shot of Moderna. He was hoping for 4,000 shots for each of his locations, but is getting about 200 a week. Now understand that the distribution folks are only committing to this volume for the next few weeks, but he’s hopeful it will continue. Here is what you do: register on his website, by location (www.NutmegPharmacy.com). It will prompt you for your name, address, date of birth, e-mail & phone number. They’ll call you twice, first to confirm your information, second when your group is eligible to make an appointment for you.
