(August 8, 2023) — Connecticut Water Company and Operation Fuel have announced they are continuing their partnership to reach customers who qualify for financial assistance. The partnership supplements assistance available through the company’s existing H2O — Help to Others — program.
Connecticut Water Vice President of Customer Service and Communications Michelle Royce Williams stated, “Our relationship with Operation Fuel has been a huge benefit to our customers, and we are pleased to continue our relationship, especially at a time when some assistance programs are facing uncertain funding.” Williams added, “One new and exciting aspect of the program is that we will be offering free water conservation kits to income-eligible customers that will help them save on water. Saving water, especially hot water, can mean additional savings because of the high cost of energy to heat water.”
Operation Fuel CEO Brenda Watson stated, “We are grateful to partner with Connecticut Water to provide much-needed relief for customers who struggle with the rising costs of basic needs. What’s most important is you see firsthand what executive leadership and staff value by offering a diverse suite of low- and moderate-income assistance and water efficiency programs to their customers. The Connecticut Water team are intentional about ensuring the programs are accessible and free from barriers for customers who seek help.”
In addition to Operation Fuel, Connecticut Water has a Water Rate Assistance Program that offers a 15% reduction on water bills for income-eligible customers, the first of its kind in the Connecticut. Information on all of Connecticut Water’s assistance programs are available at ctwater.com/H2O.
Water conservation kits include easy-to-install devices that reduce water use at faucets, showers and toilets. One thing every homeowner can do is to check for silent toilet leaks, typically the biggest waste of water in a home. Place a few drops of food coloring in the toilet tank and wait 15 minutes without flushing. If food coloring makes its way into the bowl, it means the flapper valve is leaking. Flapper valves are inexpensive and can be found at any hardware or home improvement store. There are many good videos on flapper valve replacement online.
