CFMC Hosts Programs on “Myths and Legends” of Artificial Intelligence

Submitted by Susan Daniels

(October 25, 2023) — AI – it’s in the news and in countless articles. Commentaries and opinions seem to appear every day. What is Artificial Intelligence? Are we already using it? And the big questions…where is it headed and what should we know? Deciphering myth from legend from everyday reality can be overwhelming and confusing. Well, no more!

Join the Community Foundation of Middlesex County (CFMC) and guest speaker Sebastian Zimmeck of Wesleyan University as we remove the science fiction from our understanding of real-world AI. “AI 101: The Myths, the Legends, and the Everyday” will be presented on Monday, October 30, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Sebastian Zimmeck is an assistant professor in the Mathematics and Computer Science Department at Wesleyan. Zimmeck’s research and teaching interests are information privacy and security. He is developing privacy tech for the web and mobile app ecosystems. To help people exercise their privacy rights, he makes use of machine learning and program analysis techniques. Zimmeck co-founded Global Privacy Control and is leading the privacy-tech-lab at Wesleyan. Register for “AI 101” at https://bit.ly/ai101-zimmeck.

“AI 201; AI and the Law” is scheduled for November 15, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Connecticut Bar Association has formed a Generative AI Committee to explore current and emerging generative AI technologies, and their potential impact on the practice of law. As nonprofits choose to utilize this technology, new questions arise regarding how the technology is used, where it is obtaining its information, and how it is sharing information forward. Where is the legal line drawn between helpful to an organization and harmful to its constituents? Guest Speaker Jonathan Shapiro will look into how nonprofits can protect themselves as they master the latest technology.  The link for the AI:201 program is: https://bit.ly/ai-law-shapiro

Jonathan Shapiro joined Aeton Law Partners LLP as a partner in 2019. From 2014 to 2018, Attorney Shapiro was recognized as a Connecticut Super Lawyer, and from 2017-2018, he was named to the Top 100 attorney list in New England. He is the Immediate Past President of the Connecticut Bar Association after serving as the 95th president of the CBA from 2018-2019.

These events are free and will be hosted on Zoom. See registration links above Registered attendees will be sent a link prior to the event.
