D-Day: A 75 Year Retrospective
June 5, 2019 6:30 p.m.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of Operation Overlord—the amphibious invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. This presentation focuses on the invasion of both Utah Beach and Omaha Beach as well the cliffs of Pointe-du-Hoc; furthermore, the talk will focus on the American cemetery at Colleville sur Mer. The presentation by Phil Devlin, is anecdotal in nature, telling interesting stories about many people and units that played key roles in the invasion. Includes original photos and source material from the presenter, who has visited the beaches twice. The role played by Connecticut servicemen is part of this presentation.

Preschool Storytime
Preschool Storytime takes place every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Join us for themed stories, songs, finger plays, and crafts. Appropriate for children ages 2 to 5, but siblings are always welcome.
Saturday Storytime
Can’t make preschool storytime during the week? Join us on the first Saturday of every month at 10:30 a.m. for stories, songs, finger plays, and crafts. Appropriate for children ages 2 to 5, but siblings are always welcome. The theme for May is “Monsters”. Help make a flannel board monster during storytime and then make a monster to take home!
Music with Margie
In June, Music with Margie will meet on the following Thursdays: June 6th & June 13th. The theme for June is “Bugs and Insects”. Margie’s multi-sensory program builds skills on a bi-weekly basis, in order for children to reach the developmental goals they need to enter kindergarten. Margie brings items for children to play with such as beanbags, scarves, puppets, and instruments. Music with Margie is appropriate for children ages 2 to 6.
Toddler Tunes
Toddler Tunes is a music and movement program for toddlers and their caregivers. Join us to sing nursery rhymes, dance, make music, and read a simple story. Tuba Kelly brings a different musical instrument each week. Get ready to hear the guitar, saxophone, trombone and, of course, her signature tuba! In June, Toddler Tunes will meet on the 20th & the 27th at 10:30 a.m. Appropriate for children ages 1 to 3, but siblings are always welcome.
LEGO™ Club
Like playing with Legos? Come build with us! Each month will feature one unique theme and one free build. Lego creations will be put on display until the next session. Lego Group meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Appropriate for children ages 5 and up.
Summer Reading Kickoff Event with Mr. Magic
Join us on Monday, June 24th at 6:00 p.m. for a dazzling, family-friendly magic show from the master of illusions, Richard Rothstein a.k.a. Mr. Magic. With mesmerizing spectacles and mystifying tricks, Mr. Magic will amaze and astound ages 2 to 102. Get ready for audience participation and lots of fun prizes! This program will be the kick-off event for our 8-week space-themed summer reading program, “A Universe of Stories”. Registration is not required.
Starlab Traveling Planetarium’s Starry Safari
On Thursday, June 27th at 2:00 p.m. and at 3:00 p.m. the Brainerd Memorial Library and Killingworth Library will host the Children’s Museum of West Harford’s Starlab Traveling Planetarium at HK Middle School. Take a special tour of creature constellations from around the world. Hear the amazing tales people told about how those animals got placed up in the night sky. Bring a constellation to life and meet a live animal from their wildlife sanctuary! For grades Pre-K through 2. Child must be able to stay in the inflatable planetarium unaccompanied by an adult for the full 45-minute program. Registration is necessary as space is limited. Please sign up for one session only beginning June 1st by visiting www.brainerdlibrary.org. Registration will not be possible before this date.

Teen Advisory Board
What can your library do for you? Join BML’s Teen Advisory Board to find out! The TAB will meet on Thursday, June 13th from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Voice your ideas for improved young adult (YA) services, help plan YA events and activities, help develop the YA collection, and assist with Children’s programming.
