ADULT PROGRAMMING

Gaming Q and A

Do you want to learn about the video games your child is playing, but don’t know where to start?  On August 7, 2019 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., come join a real gamer for a night of questions and answers about today’s most popular titles.  Learn what’s really in a game’s age rating and what to look out for, plus everything you need to know about loot boxes.  Discover the pros and cons of games like Fortnite, learn about family-friendly and microtransaction-free titles, and even try out a Nintendo Switch!  Handouts of useful information will be provided.

Family Game Night

Unleash your inner child at our family game night on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Take a walk down memory lane with classic board games such as Trivial Pursuit, Sorry, Boggle, Connect Four, and Life.  Or, learn thrilling new games such King of Tokyo, Settlers of Catan, Exploding Kittens, Forbidden Island, and Code Names.   Games from ages 2 to 102 will be available. Refreshments will be supplied. Come and get your game on!

Music on the Lawn with Kate Callahan 

Saturday, August 10, 2019  6:30 p.m.

Connecticut’s 16th State Troubadour, Kate Callahan is one of the most awarded songwriters in the state receiving the Woman of Character from the Hartford Courant, Best Singer- Songwriter in Connecticut from the CT Now readers poll in 2017 and Artist of the Year in 2014 from the Greater Hartford Arts Council. She gives a concert of compelling original folk music plus songs by Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. Kate Callahan has shared the stage with songwriters Judy Collins, Noel Paul Stokey from Peter, Paul and Mary, the late Bill Morrissey and Aztec Two Step. She is unapologetically optimistic in concert, singing original songs about the Earth, marriage, gratitude, love and spirit. 

Noel Paul Stookey (Peter, Paul & Mary) says that Kate’s songs are “Zen-Like.”

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

Preschool Storytime

Preschool Storytime takes place every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Join us for themed stories, songs, finger plays, and crafts. Appropriate for children ages 2 to 5, but siblings are always welcome.

Saturday Storytime

Can’t make preschool storytime during the week? Join us on the first Saturday of every month at 10:30 a.m. for stories, songs, finger plays, and crafts. Appropriate for children ages 2 to 5, but siblings are always welcome.

Music with Margie

Margie takes a break for the summer but will return in September. Stay tuned!

Toddler Tunes

Toddler Tunes is a music and movement program for toddlers and their caregivers. Join us to sing nursery rhymes, dance, make music, and read a simple story. Tuba Kelly brings a different musical instrument each week. Get ready to hear the guitar, saxophone, trombone and, of course, her signature tuba! In August, Toddler Tunes will meet every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Appropriate for children ages 1 to 3, but siblings are always welcome.

LEGO™ Club

Like playing with Legos? Come build with us! Each month will feature one unique theme and one free build. Lego creations will be put on display until the next session.   Lego Group meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Appropriate for children ages 5 and up.

Puzzle Club

NEW PROGRAM! Come put your skills to the test with challenges such as tangrams, pentominoes, and word puzzles. Stimulate your brain, sharpen your problem-solving skills, and learn effective strategies to impress your friends in Tetris. Puzzle club meets on 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Appropriate for ages 8 -12.

Dancin’ With Hoops Summer Reading Finale

Join Judi Jones a.k.a. “Energizer” on Wednesday August 21st at 6:00 p.m. for a night of musically-fueled interactive hula hooping on the Brainerd Library Lawn.  Hoop dancing ignites creative movement, dance, exercise, self-expression and cooperative play.   Participants will learn basic waist hooping, tricks, and on-and-off body moves.  Custom hula hoops will be available for use.  All ages welcome to participate. Custom hoop giveaway at the end!  Ice cream social to follow!  Registration not required.   Rain date: August 22nd at 6:00 p.m.

Summer Activities- A Universe of Stories

Don’t forget to stop in the NEW Teen Lounge, downstairs off the Community Room this summer for activities and crafts based on our Summer Reading Theme- “A Universe of Stories”! Check our website and social media for the most up to date info.
