Heavy rain and high winds were not enough to deter 55 Brainerd Memorial Library supporters from attending a cabaret-style reception in their honor Jan. 25, 2020 at the library.
The two-hour event was highlighted by a dulcimer-playing troubadour and an impressive spread of hors d’oeuvres and beer and wine supplied by volunteers and local businesses.
The reception’s purpose was to thank supporters for past service and to update them on the library’s $1.5 million renovation and expansion plan now under way.
Peter and Mary Aduskevich were singled out for their long history of financial support to the library, along with other service. Between them, they helped restore the history room, manage the library trust fund, tutor children and work at book sales and the popular Taste of Haddam event.
Ed and Judy Munster were similarly honored; Ed for his long service as a trustee and his successful efforts to secure state aid for the library and Judy for “practically single handedly maintaining the lovely landscaped entry into the library,” as Lynne Cooper, trustee, put it in her tribute.
Library Director Tom Piezzo invites local residents to stop by and pick up a summary of the library’s five year strategic plan.
Tom also thanked Thomasina Levy for providing festive dulcimer music, banter and song.
