Editor’s Note: The HKHS Boys Lacrosse team was defeated by St. Joseph Catholic High School in the quarterfinals of the Class S State Championship on June 5, 2021, by a score of 18-8. HK, the Shoreline Conference Champions, had defeated Tolland in the First Round of the tournament on June 2.

(June 7, 2021) — March 17th seems like it was only a few days ago. It is crazy to think it has been upwards of 2 months since we had our first practice. And it ended how we all dreamed of it ending: a big blue and yellow banner in a humid, brightly lit field house. To some people, that may just be a piece of fabric. But to us, it’s much more. It’s the pure exhilaration felt by all of us as we ran onto that hot turf field after winning the shoreline championship. It’s the hours upon hours of hard work, and the brotherhood that was formed as a byproduct of this work. We had a plan, wanted to do something, and went out there and did it.

I think I speak for all of us when I say I am going to miss all the seniors who went on this journey with us this year. without them, this would not have been possible. Each and every one of them was an asset to this team, contributing in incredible ways, on and off the field. Looking out for younger guys like me and leading us through the season.

Everyone added something this year, we are one team, and every single one of us should be proud of what we put together this spring.

Even in the end, when we played St. Joes, we did not go silently into the night. We fought, and we fought hard, and we scared them. They were not expecting us to be as much of a challenge as we were, and even in the end, when all hope of winning seemed lost, we fought like champions, because we are champions.

Great season guys, I love all of you.
