Boys & Girls Track 2021: HKHS Defeats Westbrook; Records Broken

On Friday, April 23, 2021, the Haddam Killingworth High School boys and girls track teams opened their season as they competed in an away dual meet against Westbrook.  Both the boys and girls team came away with victories on the day as the boys defeated Westbrook by a score of 125-13 to start their dual meet season 1-0.  Leading the way for the Cougars were the following event winners: Eamon Sweeney 110 hurdles (15.3) 300 hurdles (41.1) and high jump (5’10”), Matthew Jennings 1600 (4:42) and 800 (2:03.6), John Bruder shot put (52’10”) and discus (116’9″), Andrew Hedges 3200 (10:52), Ryan Wiese 400 (63.8), Orion Inkel triple jump (37’0″) and John Bosco javelin (135’1″).

The boys 4×800, 4×100 and 4×400 relays were also victorious on the day helping the team score valuable points.  A highlight of the meet was John Bruder breaking the school record in the shot put with his throw of 52’10” breaking the previous record by over 2 feet which was previously held by Cliff Barrows back in 1979.  
The H-K girls team also went 1-0 on the day to begin their dual meet season as they beat Westbrook by a score of 112-37. Leading the way for the Cougars were the following event winners: Mai-Ly Criscuolo won the 100 hurdles (17.0) and 300 hurdles (54.1), Kedarjah Lewis 100 (12.3) the 200 (25.8) and long jump (18’2″), Ava DiMatteo 1600 (6:05), Izzy Berardino 3200 (12:43), Kayla Danaher triple jump (29’9″), Leah Chester high jump (4’8″), Gabby Lester shot put (28’7″) and discus (81’9″), Morgan Schultz pole vault (7’6″).

The girls 4×800, 4×100 and 4×400 relays were also victorious on the afternoon to propel the girls to their victory. A highlight of the girls meet was Kedarjah Lewis breaking the school record  in the long jump with her jump of 18’2″ breaking the record of 18’0″ which was previously held by Leah Pfrommer in 2012.

 

The track teams will next be in action on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 as they travel to Clinton to compete in a dual meet against Morgan.
