(March 27, 2023) — Oddfellows Playhouse Youth Theater announces auditions for the Junior Repertory Company mainstage production of “The Beman Project: One Day You’ll Be A Man.” Auditions will be held April 3 and 5, 2023 from 4:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., at Oddfellows Playhouse, 128 Washington Street in Middletown. Auditions are open to all young people ages 12 to 15. African-American young people encouraged.
Young people wishing to audition must pre-register for one of the two audition dates by contacting the Playhouse. Auditioners do not need to prepare anything, but should arrive on time, dressed to move, and planning to stay for the entire two hours. Auditions will include light movement and reading from the script. Everyone who auditions and commits to the rehearsal and production schedule will be cast in the show.
“The Beman Project: One Day You’ll Be A Man” is a new play by Jacque Brown. It explores Middletown’s African-American history through the eyes of three spirited teens who travel back in time. The trio meet and interact with prominent historical figures from Middletown and other places who aid them in learning history and what it means to be a man. Along the way they discover life and history are connected and aren’t necessarily the journey they’d thought. Rehearsals begin April 17, 2023, and will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:45 p.m.- 6:45 p.m. Performances will be on June 2-4, 2023 at Oddfellows Playhouse and Cross Street AME Zion Church.
To register for the audition, or for more information, call (860) 347-6143 or email info@oddfellows.org. Tuition for Junior Repertory Theater is $160. Financial aid or work study is available for anyone who needs it. It is Oddfellows Playhouse policy that no one is turned away for inability to pay.
