(Sept. 10, 2019) — The Arts Center now offers an afterschool art program at their gallery, Spectrum Art Gallery, in Centerbrook for ages 7-11. In 3D Sculpture Fun young artists use a variety of art materials to create 3-dimensional forms. From paper-mâché fruit to ceramic animal bowls, they learn the skills and techniques to become comfortable with each medium. Additional projects include making salt dough, clay miniature tiles and pendants! Dates: Wednesdays, Sept. 25; Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23. Makeup Oct. 30 or Thursdays, Sept. 26; Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24. Makeup Oct.31. Time: 3:30-4:30pm. Cost: $120 members save $12.
Also offered is Drawing and Painting for Young Artists ages 7-11! Practice drawing and painting from life as well as from the imagination using watercolor, acrylics and the tools and techniques associated with each. Explore traditional practices such as contour drawing, brush-play, still-life, as well as experimental methods and abstract art. Dates: Wednesdays, Sept. 25; Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23. Makeup Oct. 30 or Thursdays, Sept. 26; Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24. Makeup Oct. 31. Time: 4:45-5:45pm. Cost: $120 includes all materials except 9”x12” sketchbook which students bring to first class. Members save $12.

Also offered on Saturdays is The Sky is the Limit with Mixed Media for Ages 7-11! Here children learn important art elements and technical skills relevant to projects that include a variety of mediums such as Paper-Mâché Bowls, Clay Slab Weaving, Chihuly-Inspired Faux Glass Sculptures, and All about Me Collage. Be prepared to have fun, get messy, and express yourself through the fun of Mixed Media Art! Dates: Saturdays, Sept. 28; Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26. Makeup Nov. 2. Time: 11:15-12:15pm. Cost: $115 members save $11.
