(July 3, 2023) — Haddam Club 60 has completed another successful year. It ended its final meeting of the 2022-2023 year with delicious sandwiches, prepared by Brewed Awakening, followed by ice cream sundaes.
One of the activities during the past year was planned as a two-part program on the Amistad. The current Amistad is a replica of the slave schooner of 1839. The first part of the program was a viewing of the film “Amistad,” directed by Steven Spielberg. That was done jointly with the Senior Center. Unfortunately, the speaker, who had been part of the crew for some of its touring years, had to postpone her talk to the club due to a family matter. Club 60 is hoping to reschedule her for September or October. 2023. Members look forward to learning more.
There was a trip in December to the Goodspeed Opera House to see “Christmas in Connecticut,” preceded by lunch at the Gelston House. Approximately twenty-three people enjoyed the musical play and lunch.
A delightful holiday luncheon was held in December at St. Peter Church Hall. It was catered by Higganum Village Market. It was a wonderful meal that included a visit by Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and a lot of raffle prizes. Also making an appearance was the Haddam-Killingworth High School chorus, singing Christmas carols.
It was an active year. At that last meeting, mentioned above, the following people were elected as officers for the 2023-2024 year: Mary Pierce – President, Don Williams – Vice President, Dot Morrell – Secretary, Anne-Marie English – Treasurer, and Mary Ellen Larson – Corresponding Secretary.
What’s coming in 2023-2024? Look for more fun events, including interesting speakers and entertainment, starting up again in September. Generally., meetings will still be on the first and third Mondays beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Community Center, 7 Candlewood Hill Road, Higganum. In September, the first meeting is scheduled to be on September 11, 2023, the second Monday of the month, due to the earlier Monday holiday.
See you in September!
