Last month, 750 of my fellow American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network advocates from across the country travelled to Washington, D.C. to urge lawmakers to make fighting cancer a national priority.
Lawmakers were asked to support increased funding for cancer research and prevention programs, and to support the “Clinical Trials Modernization Act.” This bill would make it easier for cancer patients to participate in clinical trials regardless of their economic means or geographic location, ultimately giving more people a better chance of surviving cancer.
Advocates in our district met with staff in the offices of Senators Blumenthal and Murphy, and they were able to meet with Congressman Courtney, to remind them what’s at stake in the fight against cancer. We are counting on our elected officials in Washington, D.C. to step up and fight for all Connecticut residents who have heard the words “you have cancer.”
Congress must work together to pass bipartisan legislation to help save lives and end cancer as we know it, for EVERYONE.
