Shoreline Co-Op Girls Swim Team Qualifies for State Championships

(October 1, 2026) — The Shoreline Co-Op Girls Swim team, with high school swimmers from Haddam-Killingworth, Valley Regional, Lyme-Old Lyme, and Old Saybrook, has had seven swimmers qualify for twelve State Championship spots in its season openers.

As of September 22, 2026, the team is 2-2 for the season with wins against Norwich Free Academy (98-52) and East Lyme (99-71), and losses to Sheehan (79-91) and Fitch Co-Op (72-96). Shoreline swimmers also took home gold medals in four of eight relay events at an annual relay meet with five teams competing: Windsor Locks Co-Op, Suffield/Enfield Co-Op, Hartford Co-Op, Wethersfield Co-Op, and Shoreline Co-Op. “This is the first time in all my years of coaching that we’ve had seven girls qualify for State Championships this early in the season,” said Coach Alison Karam. “We now have State qualifiers in all events but one, so we’ll be working on that.”

Three Shoreline swimmers have qualified for States in the 100-yard breaststroke: Abby Beloin (H-K, FR) 1:16.91, Olive Forristall, (Captain, H-K, SR) 1:22.35, and Kayla Franklin (OS, FR) 1:24.15. Claire Johnson (Valley, JR) qualified in the 200-yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:34.18 and the 100-yard butterfly (1:09.26). Emma Scherber (Valley, SO) swam qualifying times in four events: 100-yard freestyle (1:03.23), 200-yard freestyle (2:14.78), 500-yard freestyle (5:56.59) and 100-yard backstroke (1:10.31). Phoebe Spallone (Valley, JR) qualified in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:12.66. Sofia Yumbla (Valley, SO) qualified for States in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events with times of 2:19.28 and 6:11.13.

Additional Shoreline swimmers who add depth and strengthen the team are Seniors: Sophia Langer (Captain, H-K), Elsa Shatraw (Co-Captain, H-K), Zi Abbott (H-K) and Mathilde Lonneker (V). Juniors: Aria Cummings (H-K), Eliza Sturges (H-K), Lauren Thebeau (H-K), Lucy Dysinger (H-K). Sophomores: Brynn DiNapoli (H-K), Hazel Forristall (H-K), Livy Roberts (H-K), Norah Reeps (H-K), Liv Osinski (L-OL). Freshmen: Isabel Olaniyi (H-K), Jules Miconi (H-K), Renna Chamberlin (H-K), Ella Nesdale (V), Lillian Farrell (V), Annalisa Archbald (L-OL), Olivia Rozanski (L-OL), and Ella Morse (OS).
