(September 26, 2026) — The following programs and events will take place at Brainerd Memorial Library during the month of October, 2026. Events
Pumpkin Carving – Tuesday Oct 13 from 6:00-8:00PM: Our annual Pumpkin Carving night is back! Pumpkin lovers of all ages are invited to come carve with us. All materials will be provided by the library. Registration required.
Adult Programs
Blue Fire Stage Presents Oscar Wilde – Friday Oct 2 at 6PM: Don’t miss this entertaining evening with Oscar Wilde presented by Blue Fire Stage. Sit back and enjoy a play reading of The Importance of Being Earnest.
Jigsaw Puzzle Club – Tuesday Oct 6 & 20 at 1PM: Join us for our Jigsaw Puzzle Club. This is a drop-in event. No sign-up necessary. Work on a jigsaw puzzle provided by Brainerd Library, and bring a puzzle to swap with other puzzlers if you wish!
Flower Adventures: Tiny Flower Arrangements – Wednesday Oct 7 at 6PM: Make a tiny flower arrangement. All itty bitty vases and petite flowers provided. Please register in advance.
Culinary Club – Wednesday Oct 14 at 6:30PM: Come join this fun potluck program! October’s theme is “Trick, No Treats,” so make something fall-themed that’s not too sweet!
Haddam Land Trust – Wednesday Oct 14 at 6:30PM: Ever wondered about the land preserves around Haddam? Peter Smith of the Haddam Land Trust will teach attendees about the preserves and how the Trust maintains them.
French Conversation Club – Wednesday Oct 21 at 6:30PM: Do you speak un petit peu de francais? Then join our French Conversation Club! Francophones of all levels welcome, basic French conversational skills required. Ages 14+.
The Headstones of Haddam – Wednesday Oct 28 at 6:30PM: Join historian Dan MacNeil for an in-depth look into the fascinating headstones, and the histories behind them, of Haddam.
Teen Programs
Teen Board Game Night – Tuesday Oct 6 at 5:30PM: Hang out, play board games new and old, and meet other teens. For grades 6-12.
Tween Game Night – Wednesday Oct 7 at 4:30PM: Come hang and play Switch or board games. Ages 11-14.
Tween Advisory Board (TWAB) – Wednesday Oct 7 at 5:30PM: Discuss volunteer opportunities, get some summer reading in, or just come hang out! Ages 10-13.
Teen Dungeons & Dragons – Tuesday October 20 at 5:30PM: Join a campaign and experience epic adventures! For new and old players alike.
Tween Culinary Club – Wednesday Oct 21 at 5:30PM: Make a dish at home, then bring it in to share! Discuss and swap ideas over a good meal. October’s theme is “Pumpkins.”
Magic the Gathering: Basic Deckbuilding – Wednesday Oct 28 at 4:30PM: You’ve learned the basics, now learn how to build and play some practice games. Each player will receive two free Jumpstart boosters to keep, generously provided by MagiKids. For ages 11-15.
Kids Programs
Preschool Storytime – Tuesdays at 10AM: Join us for our weekly story time filled with interactive storytelling fun!
Toddler Tunes – Thursdays at 10AM: A sing-a-long with live music and fun weekly themes.
Kids Switch Game Night – Wednesday Oct 7 at 4:30PM: Elementary schoolers can join us for an hour of fun games for the Nintendo Switch. Controllers will be provided for this family-friendly gaming session, but participants can also bring their own controllers if they want. Possible games include Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Super Monkey Ball, and more!
Pokémon Club – Wednesday Oct 14 at 4:30PM: A club for kids who love Pokémon. Trivia & Prizes! Fat Pikachus! Bring your game and/or cards. Trading allowed with adult permission. This month we’ll have a Halloween party with a costume contest.
Halloween Candy Taste Test – Wednesday Oct 14 at 5:30PM: Sample and try to guess fun flavors of Halloween candy! Maybe you’ll even find a new, strange favorite. For grades 3-8.
LEGO Club – Monday Oct 19 at 4:30PM: Join us for LEGO Club! Each meeting will have a different challenge or objective that participants will try to complete. Build something to match the theme and win a small prize. For kids of all ages.
Kids Board Game Night – Wednesday Oct 21 at 4:30PM: Elementary age kids can join us for an hour of fun and family-friendly board games, from classics like Connect Four to newer games just waiting to become your family’s next favorite.
Yarn Pumpkins – Monday Oct 26 at 4:30PM: Learn to make fun and simple yarn pumpkins! All materials will be provided. This program is aimed at grades 2-7, with coloring pages available for younger siblings.
Dice Lab – Friday Oct 30 at 4:30PM: Learn to craft dice and miniatures with a 3-D printer, a Cricut & more!
