(May 31, 2026) — The Haddam Sustainability Committee held its Sixth Annual Shredding Event on May 16, 2026 at Haddam Elementary School.  The flow of cars into the parking lot was constant all day, and thanks to the generosity of many, we raised a total of $1,353 for Haddam Social Services. In addition to raising money for a great cause, we also were able to recycle an amazing amount of material.

Thank you to everyone who came by and donated, as well as to the committee members who helped throughout the day. The event would not have flowed as smoothly as it did if not for the help of Amelia Riggs, Brodie Lawrence and Henry DeVito, our student volunteers from Haddam-Killingworth High School. They worked all day, lifting heavy boxes out of vehicles so residents didn’t have to get out of their cars.

We have been asked if we could hold this event twice a year, and we would love to. Unfortunately, the cost of the truck allows us to schedule only one event per year. If you are interested in joining the Haddam Sustainability Committee or have recycling ideas, please contact us at HaddamSustainabilityCommittee@gmail.com.
