(April 23, 2026) — We have been doing some Spring cleaning at our house, and you probably are also doing this. We recommend the use of recycling as a way to get rid of things no longer wanted. But there are times when it is really hard to figure out exactly what can or cannot be recycled.
The Killingworth Transfer Station takes many different items that we might want to get rid of, and many of them are recycled. Sometimes we just don’t pay attention and everything goes into the “garbage” which often ends up in landfill areas, or the ocean, rather than going to a recycling processing center.
Did you know that recycling is mandatory in Connecticut? It is, and it applies to all of us, to our households, our businesses and to major facilities like hospitals, colleges and local and state government agencies. At Killingworth Town Hall, you can find a folder listing what can and cannot be recycled. One example: office paper, junk mail and magazines can be recycled, but any shredded paper cannot be recycled.
Did you know that with input from the KCC, the town has recently added a textile recycling program with a bin at the Transfer Station? Many of the things we use in our homes will have recycling symbols on them, although sometimes they can be hard to spot. But there is help!
