(March 12, 2026) — The Haddam Sustainability Committee will be hosting several events in the next few weeks, including its second Repair Cafe in April, and its Sixth Annual Shredding Day in May. See below for details:
- March 24, 2026: “Composting in a World of Solid Waste” 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam
Presentation by Gail Reynolds. Humans create vast amounts of solid waste, much of it organic material. Composting is the acceleration of decomposition of organic material. Learn different methods of and uses for composting and the ways that you might incorporate them into your daily routine. Open to the public. Program begins at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Sustainability Committee’s regular business meeting at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
- April 11, 2026: Repair Cafe 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. HVFC Firehouse, 439 Saybrook Road, Higganum
This event brings together a group of “fixers” who offer their services free of charge for repairs like small, appliances, knife sharpening, small sewing projects, jewelry repair and fixing small electronics. Refreshments will be served. A complete list of fixers will be published in the weeks ahead.
- April 28, 2026: Earth Day Seed Planting Event 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam
Think Spring thoughts! Join us as we start our garden seeds. Vegetable and flower seeds and all planting material provided by Haddam Garden Club. Open to the public. Planting and pizza start at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Sustainability Committee’s regular Business Meeting at 6:30 p.m.
- May 16, 2026: Paper Shredding Event, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, Former Haddam Elementary School, 272 Saybrook Road, Higganum
Securely shred your personal papers. Suggested donation is $5 per box. All money raised goes to Haddam Social Services. This is a drive-through event, so visitors do not have to get out of their cars.
