(October 9, 2025) — The United Congregational Church of Haddam and Higganum (UCCHH) is taking on the challenge of becoming recognized as a Green Church. As part of this certification, we are not only looking at ways our congregation can become more sustainable, but also how we can participate in the community to help take care of our local environment.
Through Source to Sea, part of the Connecticut River Conservancy, the UCCHH has taken on the cleanup responsibility of the Higganum Cove section of the Connecticut River. Our first clean up is scheduled for October 25, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, with a rain date of October 26, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..
We will meet at the Higganum Cove parking lot at 195 Dublin Hill Road in Higganum at 10:00 a.m. The parking lot is located at the corner of Depot Road and Dublin Hill Road.
The clean-up will include the path from the Higganum Cove Preserve along Higganum Creek and into the cove that is located along the Connecticut River.
Please come with proper foot attire for potentially muddy or slippery conditions, as well as work gloves or gardening gloves if you have them. Bags will be provided. You can sign up at https://sourcetoseacleanup.org/cleanup-sites/ or contact Kristin Battistoni at Battistoni.kristin@gmail.com for more information. Walk-ins are welcome the morning of the cleanup.
