Election 2025: RSD 17 Board of Education Candidate Aubrey Gonzalez (Killingworth)

Editor’s Note: HK-Now.com and Haddam Killingworth News asked candidates for the Regional School District 17 Board of Education to provide brief biographies as a way of introducing themselves to voters. The statement below is from Aubrey Gonzalez, who is running for BOE from Killingworth. The candidate’s reply is unchanged from the original as submitted. I’m Aubrey Gonzalez and I would love your vote for the Board of Education.

Politically, I’m unaffiliated. My platform is a passion for our community and our schools. I appreciate the KRTC’s endorsement, which shows a willingness to prioritize merit over party.

School board members should be nonpartisan and possess the knowledge and expertise to serve in the role effectively.

I’ve had the privilege of working in HK as a substitute teacher for the past few years. Getting to know our students, teachers and parents, and having an impact on the culture of our schools stirred me to serve on a higher level. I hope to repair the disconnect between the district and the town. I’ve had the opportunity to view our district from all sides- taxpayer, parent and teacher.

This is a special place. I want to restore pride in HK and confidence in our BoE.

With your vote, I hope to elevate and sharpen the board. Members will soon be choosing a Superintendent and approving a respectable budget. We need shrewd people vetting such impactful decisions. Allow me to represent KW in doing so. I will exercise prudent judgement, consider all shareholders and strive to maintain healthy, academically-excellent schools.
