HKHS Cross Country Teams Compete in Bowdoin Park Classic in New York

(September 29, 2025) — On September 27, 2025, the Haddam Killingworth High School Boys’ and Girls cross country teams traveled to Wappingers Falls, New York to compete in the Bowdoin Park Classic against some of the top teams in the Northeast Region from New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island.
 
Charlotte Behnke leads the way up the hill

The Girls team raced well on the challenging 5,000 meter course to place fourth overall as a team in the Varsity 2 race with 143 points.  The Girls were led by Junior Charlotte Behnke, who crossed the line in a time of 20:38 to place 22nd in the race of 147 girls.  She was closely followed by Senior teammates Julia Downing, who ran 20:57 to place 26th, and Grace Mitchell 28th (21:02).  Next to cross the line for HKHS was Junior Emi Schweitzer 37th (21:30) and Freshman Alyssa Behnke 49th (22:03) to round out the team scoring.

The Boys team, racing without one of their captains and top runners who was out with an injury, still competed well against some of the top teams in the Northeast region as they placed twelfth as a team in the Varsity 2 race scoring 330 points.  Leading the Cougars was Senior Dan McCourt, who placed 42nd in the race with a time of 17:24  Next to cross the line for HKHS was Junior Evan Berardino 52nd (17:46), Junior Wyatt Voegtli 63rd (17:56), Senior Alex Fredericksen 83rd (18:10) and Sophomore Trey Downing 96th (18:21),

The cross country teams will next compete on October 4, 2025, as they travel to Thetford, Vermont to compete in the Woods Trail Run.
